California Bay Area as a Food Lovers Destination

“Forget Tuscany—the most enticing artisanal cheeses, breads, olive oils, and condiments can be found in northern California." Christopher Petkanas for Travel and Leisure Magazine.

For foodies and food lovers everywhere, Northern California is becoming THE destination to taste, learn and explore. With the farm-to-table mindset and an abundance of talented and creative chefs, your options for a culinary vacation are endless.

We are happy to welcome famous chef Duilio Valenti and his elegant Northern Italian cuisine "Valenti & Co." restaurant to the San Anselmo Inn. "Gud Cook" Valenti, born and raised in Milan, brings to San Anslemo the cuisine inspired by the love for his homeland and the incredible quality of our local wholesome ingredients. The menu is inspired, genuine, and healthy. Classic dishes are revised to incorporate the best of what the local land has to offer and presented in a simple yet elegant display. The atmosphere is classy but relaxed with a very European feel.

There are other very good restaurants are right here in San Anselmo: Insalata’s, Comforts, 69 Sushi, Baan Thai, Marinitas, Kientz Hall, CreekSide Pizza & Tap Room, Auryn Thai, MH Bread & Butter, Mad Cap, Taco Jane's, Pizzalina, The Hub Burghers, and the classic Hilda's. You barely have to walk out of our front door to enjoy!

Local ingredients are created and grown with the focus on quality over quantity. As you take a drive through the astonishingly beautiful farmland of West Marin, you come upon signs inviting you to come meet the farmers, buy fresh produce and taste as you go. On most weekdays you can spend an afternoon perusing one of the local farmers markets and enjoying the vibrant colors and aromas, most often accompanied by live music.

Spend your evenings dining at one of the world class restaurants; don’t be surprised when you see ingredients on the menu boasting their specific local source, most likely one of the farms you passed by on your drive. The outstanding caliber of chefs in the bay area and Northern California is a big part of the dining experience. Besides the famous wine tasting region, Northern California is also known for its microbreweries. Enjoy a tour and you will see the passion and devotion the brewers give to each of their beers. Experience the different notes and complexities of each one to deepen your appreciation of the micro-brew. The tasting experience may be more “laid back” but still very much on par with wine tasting in Napa and Sonoma.

The staff at the Inn has developed close relationships with several tours and restaurants in order to give our guests the best possible experience. Please inquire about our special packages and VIP culinary experiences!
